It’s a crisp fall morning this morning, October 5th. October means a few things, white girl pumpkin spice everything, scary movies and haunted houses, and most importantly, playoff baseball. And what better way to kick off the party than with the Red Sox and Yankees in Fenway?! Sign me up!
One of the most storied and entertaining rivalries not only in baseball but all of sports will kick off the 2021 MLB playoffs. As someone who loves playoff anything at any level, I have some personal bias towards baseball, but really think it is the best sport in tournaments, every pitch piles mountains of pressure onto every fan and spectators soul.
Although the Red Sox won the first 7 games against the Yanks this season they have gone on to lose the last 6 against their arch nemesis. In addition they come into the game as a -120/-125 favorite. The Yankees are expected to send Gerrit Cole to the mound while Nate Eovaldi should take the bump for the ‘Sox.
The Bronx Bombers will be without D.J. LeMahieu and Luke Voit due to injury. Although the New York lineup is still very, very dangerous. That is not to say that the Boston Lineup isn’t dangerous in their own right. They can very much push some runs across the board although they may do so through the long ball less than their opponents.
If I was forced to make a bet on the game, I would have to lean towards the Red Sox at anything plus-money, and frankly, probably will end up betting that as an honorary start to the playoffs.
All other things aside, one of the things I am most excited for is a packed out stadium for playoff baseball again. The Boston fans should have Fenway rocking and getting us back to the community we feel while it seems your whole city is in one stadium pulling for one common goal.
